Rekindling The Fire:
2nd Provincial Summit in First Nations Education, October 17-19, 2012
Over the course of three days, between October 17th and the 19th, 2012, the Department of Education funded the Second Annual Native Education Summit which was called "Rekindling the Fire." The purpose of the Summit was to hear what Native People's and others whom worked in the Education field, had to say with regard to the barriers their community's children faced as to why the graduation statistics were so low among children of First Nations.
The results were then recorded on large 'white papers' and hung up on the walls of the large, white, rectangular tent that was erected beside the Riverside Resort, where the summit took place, situated down the road from the Kingsclear First Nation and overlooking the Mactaquac Dam. We were given SIX DOTS EACH, that we could freely place on any of the 'white papers' which listed the ideas we most agreed to and considered priorities via our votes by dots placed.
